Horse traders beware! States are finally going after scam artists that rip off unsuspecting buyers. If you haven't heard of the Patricia Wilson story do a Google search and you find pages of complaints. Here is the link to the story.
The story of Patricia Wilson is not new and she is not alone in scamming buyers. The internet is a great place to shop but buying a horse online is asking for trouble. There are so many ways for an internet deal to go wrong. The most common complaints I hear are buyers not getting what they expected. I would never buy a kid's horse without riding the horse myself. I would say 80% of the ads I see for gentle, kid safe horses are either clueless sellers or scams. I can't even count the number of ads I see where someone claims to have a horse perfect for a kid or beginner and the horse is either green broke or a young horse. Never will a green horse be safe for a child or beginner. A horse under 5 is not suitable for either situation. Only an older, been there done that, horse should ever be marketed for beginners. You get what you pay for and a reliable horse is not going to be under $1000 unless it has some kind of health problem.
Do your homework people. A simple Google search will help find out if you are dealing with a shady dealer. And please find an experienced person to help you.
And thank you Texas for going after the bad sellers. Patricia Wilson is just the beginning.
Thanks for posting a picture. I was a victim of Patricia. Justice has been done in Texas, but lookout Illinois, because she's heading back there. She can start up her business, but just can't sell or buy from Texas.

Sick Horses, Neglected Horses, Abused Horses.Hey but they are all kid safe and trail broke and Show ready according to Melissa. Stay Away from 6208 S.Perryville Rd Cherry Valley,il. always selling a friends horse never her horse and their all in training.

First she List it for sale with No Price and a Good Horse aint cheap, and a Cheap Horse aint Good.and dont waste my time in her adds Then a Month Later she List the Same Mare for sale with a $100.00 ReHoming Fee, Because of the Hay Shortage. ReplyDeleteIf things are so bad out at Melissa's property, why has no one reported her for the supposed poor condition of the horses? I've known her for years through 4H and have a hard time believing she would abuse or starve any animal.

She has A Filly up their running around with a halter and Lead rope Attached full Time Dragging it Around. That is her Method of Training. Really funny untill I saw another Big Horse Step on the Rope while it was Running and the Filly was Stopped in her Tracks, and Flipped head over Heels, and she saw what Happened and Shrugged her Shoulders and Said she will Learn. HAHS is a Joke they are too Busy in Mchenry Cty to Make a Trip to Winn Cty. If your Such good Friends with her Has She Ever Invited you to her Place.She dont Allow Visitors she Has TO MUCH TO HIDE.
DeleteI've been out there several times, but the last time was before I started school again last fall. Didn't see anything going on then--horses all looked well fed and no one looked sick or anything. Some were haltered and some weren't, but none had lead ropes attached except the one she was grooming when I got there. I've watched her work horses before and haven't seen her do anything questionable.
DeleteI find it strange that the person talking crap knows so much about her. I talk to Melissa all the time and have been to her place. I think her fat neighbor needs something better to do than harass her. Melissa has never had a horse taken from her property by HAHS, and the fat neighbor calls them all the time to her place. I was there this spring when the HAHS showed up. And everything was in perfect standing. Someone has nothing better to do obviously and is just looking for a harassment/slander case against herself.

The 2nd one we Know is A Bad Selfish Horse Owner The Cannot Afford to Feed Her Horses,the 3rd One we Know is the Single Mom of 2- Welfare Collecting, Leaves her Children Home Alone. and Uses the Child Support Money to try to Feed The Horses and not her Children..the 4th One we know has Had Horses Taken From her Property their are witensses by a member of HAHS and the Horse Owner.BTW Ran into ur 4H Person she says Also has Seen all 4 of Melissa's.Every one know her as the Liar..BTW- Nice 2 year old Paint you put for sale wasent she 2 years old Last year,For Sale. and who Breeds a 2 year old..NOT BROKE KID BROKE..any Horse under the AGE of 5 is Not KID BROKE and I Hope No one in their right Mind would Buy a Horse from You.And If they Do, I Hope they sue you for Lying to your Buyers. and I Hope the Judge Banns you fron Ever Owning and Selling Horses Again.. ReplyDeleteUm, what exactly are 'herpies'? Are they like harpies but just a little different? And what are 'gental warts'? Are they just nicer than regular warts or something? If you're going to accuse someone of having a disease, at least learn how to spell it correctly. And do you have absolute proof that she has any disease? Do you have absolute proof that she sleeps with that many guys a year--have you sat next to them and watched while it happened or do you prefer to peep through the windows? (Not that it's any of your business!) And what is with almost every single word beginning with a capital letter? Your post looks and reads like a very unintelligent person wrote it.

This woman consigned my horse, then took all of the money off the consignment. She also sold me a horse that was guaranteed sound, kid safe and in her own words bombproof. After the horse bucked and tried to kick me I began to post my story to find the original owner. She came forward and stated the horse was non of the above and was In fact a rescue horse and green at best and was sold and represented as such. Over the last 5 months I have met over 90 people who have allegedly had the same experience. We have come together and are working with an investigator from the Texas health commission. She is selling what we consider very unsafe animals targeting children and families and we have reported her to the Attorney General. We are working with the same investigator who helped shut down Patricia Wilson.
The following are only a few of the allegations:
...Sold a kid safe horse that flipped out the very next day and broke a woman's back
...sold a family a horse that bucked so hard it broke the gentleman's ribs, collapsed his lung and put him in ICU
...exactly a month later same story different state
....sends horses that are guaranteed sound and when they arrive are terribly under weight and crippled
...sold horse to a riding facility that put a little girl in the operating room for facial reconstruction
...sold one of our members a horse and resold the horse after she paid, then sent her a totally different horse that was severely foundered and kicked her in the kidney while she was walking around the horse
...requires $500 deposit to hold a horse and when buyer shows up to see the horrible condition of the animal or the horse doesn't pass vet check she refuses to return money
The list of allegations go on and on. These people have given written statements to the investigator.
Trying to get her into court has proven to be very frustrating because she pulls every trick she can to avoid showing up.
She did plead not guilty on her first count of selling without a coggins, and a court date has been set for march 3 . She has two more counts as of last week in Scurry County, with more to come in several other counties. She also has a court date Tuesday feb 28 in brown county for a small claims hearing that will be for over $8000. Another being filed in Bonham, and many others currently being filed.
